Disk to Disk (D2D) Backups

If your current tape library is more than 2 1/2 years old, this is a good time to consider switching to disk-to-disk backups (D2D).  Traditionally, disk-to-disk backups were so much more expensive than tape backup solutions that very few companies could justify the costs. Over the past couple of years however, with the advent of data deduplication and inexpensive SATA drives, the cost of backing up to disk is actually less than backing up to tape when all costs are considered.  Ixilix offers D2D backup solutions that are easy to use and reliable, along with options that are affordable for companies of all sizes. Click here to learn more about Exagrid's byte-level data de-duplication or call us today at 610-359-5815.

What Can D2D Backups Do For Me?

Ixilix's goal is to help our customers achieve their objectives by implementing our solutions. Our solutions are only successful if the end result is that your benefits outweigh your costs. Multiple benefits can be achieved by adopting a D2D backup strategy. Some of the more common benefits include:

Reduced Recovery Windows - If your Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requires your recovery time to be in terms of minutes rather than hours, then you will benefit from utilizing D2D backup technology.  You will achieve instant merging of incremental data by not having to load multiple tapes, better throughput on backups and restores as well as being able to do partial restores without the need to sift through a tape library.

Reduced Administration Time
- By eliminating the need to load and unload tapes, you can focus your resources on more strategic initiatives. In addition, operational errors are reduced by removing the manual human intervention while performing backups. With D2D backups it is no longer possible to store the wrong tape or backup the wrong file. Ixilix will automate these processes to ensure that the right data is backed up at the appropriate time and stored in the correct place.

Improved Backup Reliability - One of the key issues with tape is that you never know if the tape is good until you try to use it.  With D2D backups, you can ensure that backups are reliable and ready to serve at a moments notice.

Guaranteed Compliance with SLA's - By utilizing D2D backup technology you are able to commit to your customers that your backups are reliable, your recovery window meets their RTO and partial restores are done in a matter of seconds. Additionally, you can ensure that your Recovery Point Objective (RPO) can be achieved to allow for data to be restored from any specific point in time.

Regulatory Data Recovery Compliance
- Regulatory compliances requires that companies comply with data retention policies related to HIPAA, SAS 70 Type II, PCI DSS, FISMA, ISO 17799/27002 and SCIF compliant facilities. With these regulations come extended data retention periods requiring reliable offsite storage. By leveraging the technology associated with D2D backups, Ixilix can ensure your company is in compliance.

Secure Offsite Remote Backups - Not only do you retain a copy of your data at your physical location; you will also have a backup of your data offsite. In the event of any kind disaster that disables your technical infrastructure, you will have data available to you. This data will be stored at Ixilix's secure compliance-based data center.
